Mary Jane Johnson, MS, RD, LDN

Outpatient Dietitian

(She/Her/Hers)

How would you describe your approach to nutrition counseling?

I take a whole-person approach to counseling, understanding that nutrition is just one piece of overall well-being, shaped by physical health, mental well-being, lifestyle, and personal circumstances. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where we can collaboratively explore nutrition and health in a way that brings nourishment and peace.

Which avenues of dietetics do you feel most passionate about pursuing?

I am most passionate about helping others improve their relationship with food and stand by a non-diet approach that focuses on reconnecting to our bodies. I am committed to challenging the way health is framed in our culture, advocating for a more intuitive and compassionate perspective. This passion is especially meaningful to me in the family setting, where fostering a compassionate approach to food and well-being can touch multiple generations.

If you were to have any other profession other than Registered Dietitian, what would it be and why?

I don’t often imagine myself outside of the dietetics profession, so I must have made the right choice! I do think I would thrive with a job title along the lines of a Culinary Travel Writer, where I could explore the world and review food.

Where can we find you when you’re not in client sessions?

I am most often at home cooking, baking, gardening, playing with my pup, or doing crafts/projects. You might find me at a local thrift store, park, dog park, or coffee shop. I also enjoy spending time in the great outdoors and getting my zen on at a local yoga studio.
