Kendra Batten, PhD, RD, LDN
Outpatient Dietitian
(She/Her/Hers)
How would you describe your approach to nutrition counseling?
I approach nutrition education and counseling with humor and empathy and view it as a collaborative process. While I contribute education on food and nutrition and their impact on health, the client educates me on their past and current thoughts and behaviors related to food and nutrition. This allows us to create a plan that can empower the client to make thoughtful, informed decisions about their food choices that balance nutritional needs and enjoyment.
Which avenues of dietetics do you feel most passionate about pursuing?
My primary interests are in disordered eating and eating disorders. I have a budding interest in the role nutrition plays in hormone balance such as PCOS. However, I am dedicated to helping people meet various health goals using nutritious food and culturally-relevant, evidence-based information.
If you were to have any other profession other than Registered Dietitian, what would it be and why?
I would choose to be a fashion designer, especially shoes and handbags. Fashion is a way to express who you are without saying a word. And besides, any outfit can be enhanced with the right shoes and bag!
Where can we find you when you’re not in client sessions?
I enjoy spin classes, yoga and Zumba as well as reading non-fiction. I am currently reading The Wonder of All Things which is a great read. I like to travel and recently traveled by train which was quite the adventure!!
