Katie Fischer, MS, RD, LDN
Outpatient Dietitian
(She/Her/Hers)
How would you describe your approach to nutrition counseling?
My nutrition counseling approach is a whole person, individualized, autonomous approach. Every client I work with has different needs and is living a different life. I assist my clients in establishing attainable goals and provide support and guidance for lasting changes related to what life stage they are in. My style is light, humorous and honest.
Which avenues of dietetics do you feel most passionate about pursuing?
I am most passionate about helping all of my clients move toward a positive, emotionally and physically nourishing relationship with food. I enjoy working with clients struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, adolescent clients, and picky eaters. I also enjoy helping those diagnosed with chronic diseases discover a pattern of nourishment that is as inclusive and intuitive as possible while considering health concerns and symptoms.
If you were to have any other profession other than Registered Dietitian, what would it be and why?
When choosing my career path, I had seriously considered becoming a teacher, so I think that’s probably what I would be if I hadn’t become a Dietitian. I had some wonderful teachers throughout my childhood/teen years, and I thought it would be amazing to make a difference in the lives of others as they had in mine. I am also a helper by nature, so being a teacher would’ve likely nurtured that.
Where can we find you when you’re not in client sessions?
When not in sessions, I am spending time with my husband and family. You can often find us taking in all of the beauty that WNC has to offer through hiking, trail running, scenic drives and visits to the local sites. I also enjoy traveling when able, and discovering new delicious recipes.
