Andrea Thelen, MS, RD, LDN

Outpatient Dietitian

(She/Her/Hers)

How would you describe your approach to nutrition counseling?

My approach to nutrition counseling is from a compassionate and non-judgemental place. I believe that accessible nutrition and lifestyle habits look different for everyone and I am here to meet my clients where they are. I recognize that food is more than the nutrients that it provides us, it is a way that we connect with our own individual cultures, honor family traditions, experience joy, and build connections with others. It is truly an honor to walk alongside my clients as they look at their relationships with food, their bodies, and movement.

Which avenues of dietetics do you feel most passionate about pursuing?

I am actively pursuing my eating disorder certification (CEDS) through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp). I am passionate about working with people with eating disorders and disordered eating. I am experienced in working with individuals with Type II Diabetes, digestive issues, migraine, and neurodivergent folx. More recently, I have felt drawn to supporting those who live with chronic illnesses or disabilities in making food more accessible and building trusting relationships with their bodies.

If you were to have any other profession other than Registered Dietitian, what would it be and why?

Besides what I do, my dream job would be to spend my days making things with my hands. I love creating and always have some form of DIY project or craft in the works.

Where can we find you when you’re not in client sessions?

Outside of work, I always have some sort of craft that I am working on. I spend a lot of my evenings crocheting with my cat on my lap while listening to music or a podcast. I love spending time outside on a walk or napping in the sunshine. I also love to dance whether it is in my kitchen or a class!
